Eating a wholesome breakfast every morning may attribute to longevity and overall better health. Starting your day with a healthy breakfast may ward off chronic disease, increase your energy and boost your attention span. Not to mention your entire sense of well-being changes for the better.
It comes as no surprise that a breakfast from Greece-a nation renowned for some of the healthiest eating habits-will soon take precedent at every American breakfast table. The "Kalimera Breakfast" (Good morning Breakfast), which is advocated by the Hellenic Chef’s Club, will serve as an initiative to help combat the dramatic increase in obesity and diabetes in America.
In fact, according to a Georgia Centenarian Study, people who regularly eat breakfast have lower rates of Type 2 diabetes and are less likely to develop heart disease over their lifetime compared to those who don't. The study was conducted over a 21-year span and followed the eating habits of older Americans. The findings suggest that regularly eating breakfast may lead to a longer-than-average life span.
The "Kalimera Breakfast" is the perfect response to this study. The breakfast draws from traditional Greek cuisine, such as the popular Greek yogurt, Greek mountain tea and seasonal fruits. Selections include foods that are rich in protein and calcium-essential nutrients to jump start your day.
Greek breakfast is also constituted by breakfast pastries with cheese, cream or spinach filling. Some examples include, "spanakopita" (spinach-pie), "tiropita" (cheese-pie) and "bougatsa" (custard-pie).
The breakfast demonstrates how not to fear meat and sweets in the morning because Greek cuisine in moderation and in small portions can do wonders for your mind and body.
